During the UAE’s hot summer months, the temperature can reach extreme levels, creating challenging conditions for those working outside. Our delivery Captains brave the heat to enable us to receive our food and groceries with convenience and free up more time in our daily lives.
To support our Captains on the front lines during these months we partnered with local associations and businesses to roll out wellness and safety initiatives.
Here are three things we did to ensure our Captains’ well-being in the summer:
1. Providing summer wellness kits and hydration centers
We curated over 4,000 summer wellness kits with customized water bottles, towels, and toiletries and distributed them to Captains across the city. The water bottles were available to Captains, and all delivery riders, via citywide hydration centers, sourced from Careem Quik dark stores in Dubai. We also partnered with Hayatna Laban for even more refreshing laban drinks to keep them replenished on their journeys.
2. Careem mobile vans and resting area
We invested in mobile “Captain Vans” that patrolled several locations across Dubai to provide a space for our Captains to rest, relax, and recharge! All delivery riders were able to collect water at Careem Quik grocery dark stores across Dubai. We also arranged air-conditioned and shaded resting areas with drinking water at Captain support centres in Dubai Media City, Al Quoz, and Umm Ramool.
3. Free medical check-ups and counselling
Through our partnership with Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), we set up a resting area for Captains complete with a cafeteria and medical centre on PAD’s premises. We provided Captains access to free medical checkups, physician counselling, as well as sessions on preventative tips and management for rehydration and summer safety.

Delivery Captains provide a critical service for millions of people in the UAE and help keep the city moving. It’s important that we consider all the steps we can take to make it easier for them to complete their work this summer and throughout the year.
